Pay scale $13 to $30 per hour
Commercial Carpenters are considered crafts persons and work on a lot of concrete forms, door frames and elevator shafts in addition to some finish work. A commercial carpenter does not do a significant amount of trim or cabinet work. Carpenters construct, erect, install, and repair structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools. They need manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, physical fitness, and the ability to solve arithmetic problems quickly and accurately. Specific skills include: reading specifications in blueprints, building plans; prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required; shape or cut materials to specified measurements; use hand tools, power equipment and machines; install structures and fixtures, such as windows, frames, flooring, and trim, or hardware; climb ladders and scaffolding; follow safety procedures.
